McDEVITT Jr., John E., 83, of Cumberland passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at home, surrounded by his loving family.  He was the husband of Maureen (Pettit) McDevitt.

Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late John E. McDevitt Sr. and the late Violet (Lupien) McDevitt. In addition to his wife, he leaves his three sons, Shawn J. McDevitt and his wife Julie of Oregon, Brian P. McDevitt and his wife Kimberly of Georgia and Michael T. McDevitt of Cumberland; his daughter, Kathleen DeAngelis and her husband Joseph of Pawtucket; his brother, Donald McDevitt and his wife Kathy of Michigan; as well as his eight grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Leo McDevitt and Senator Charles McDevitt.

Mr. McDevitt was employed as an Electromechanical Engineer for the Augat Corporation of Attleboro, previously Clarostat Corporation of Dover, NH for many years. He holds many patents in his industry.

He was actively involved in the Boy's Scouts with his sons when he resided in New Hampshire. He enjoyed gardening, classical music, reading, and model trains. Those who love him will always remember him as an avid handyman, and his willingness to complete any projects at the home. Among all of his interests and activities, John was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather.

John was celebrated in town, especially in his North Cumberland neighborhood as a true American. Every year, on special holidays, he would adorn the neighborhood with the American Flags as well as fly the large flag that once flew over a base in Afghanistan.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to John's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Monday, June 7, 2021 from 2 to 6 PM and continue on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in the St. John Vianney Church at 10 AM. Burial will take place in the Resurrection Cemetery at a later date.
