Cumberland George E. Burke, 72, of William St. died Thursday in the Memorial Hospital of R. I., Pawtucket. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie (Quinn) Burke. Born in Providence he was the son of the late Raymond J. and Exilida B. (St. Onge) Burke. He resided in Cumberland for the past 48 years. He was employed by the State of Rhode Island, Dept. of Labor and Training as a Special Projects Manager for 28 years until his retirement in 2009. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving in Germany. Mr. Burke was a member of the St. Thomas Council Knights of Columbus, Cumberland; The Irish Kings. He was also an avid golfer and member of the Pinecrest Country Club, Warwick. Besides his wife he leaves his son, William Burke and his wife Jill of Arlington, VA, son-in-law Keith Sherman of Barnstable, MA. He also leaves seven grandchildren, Samantha, Nicholas, Carly and Brady Sherman all of Barnstable, and Katherine, Ainsley, and Jack Burke all of Arlington, VA. He was also the father of the late Kathleen Sherman, and brother of the late Frances Hodgkinson and Raymond J. Burke Jr. A celebration of his life will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Church, 103 Pine St., Pawtucket. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
