Norman Richard Mona

CUMBERLAND Norman R. Mona, 75, of Cumberland, passed away Saturday at the Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Eugenia (Boggia) Mona for 49 years. Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Michael Sr. and Bella (Caouette) Mona. He resided in Cumberland for the past 40 years, previously residing in Pawtucket. He was a graduate of the New England Technical Institute. He was a United States Army, 101st Airborne Division veteran, serving as a paratrooper during the Korean War. Mr. Mona was formerly a technical representative for the Xerox Corporation for many years. He was a communicant of the St. John Vianney Church, Cumberland. As an active member of the community, Mr. Mona was involved with the Meals on Wheels Program. He served as the Chaplin for the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge # 14; member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Thomas Council; member of the Cumberland Seniors; past president of the St. John Vianney Seniors; past president of the Cumberland Youth Baseball League; and formerly a Cub Scout Leader. He was also a dedicated Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He had a great passion for cooking and enjoyed playing cards at both the Cumberland and Lincoln Senior Centers. Besides his beloved wife he leaves his daughter, Cheryl A. Leblanc of Attleboro; son Richard N. Mona of Warwick; brother Michael Mona Jr.; sister Barbara Duplisea; grandsons, Peter C. Mackie and Nicholas M. Leblanc; granddaughter Jenelle F. Newcomb; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Michelle K. Mackie. A celebration of his life will be held Thursday with full military honors at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in the St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
