William J. Rattenni, 73, of Oakland, Maine, and formerly of Cumberland and Lincoln, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, at Hope Hospice in Providence.

Born on February 9, 1952, William spent his early years in Rhode Island, where he developed a lifelong sense of discipline, faith, and resilience. As a boy, he served as an altar server at St. Paul's Church in Pawtucket and later joined Boy Scout Troop 1 Saylesville. He also played for the Saylesville Little League, where he first learned the importance of teamwork and perseverance.

William worked alongside his father in various endeavors before joining Rossi Plumbing and Heating, focusing on water mains and gate valves. His dedication and skill led him to a proud career as a union laborer with Laborers' Local 271. Over the years, he became known as a trusted foreman and union steward. He took particular pride in the bridges he helped build across Rhode Island and Massachusetts—most notably, the covered bridge at the entrance to Lincoln Woods on Breakneck Hill Road, a structure that remains a lasting tribute to his craft.
A quiet and humble man, William lived a life defined by hard work and quiet conviction.   One of his favorite quotes offers a glimpse into his hopeful spirit:

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to William's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Wednesday from 4 to 6 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland.  A prayer service will be held at 6:30 PM.
