William C.
Malloy
Jul 29, 1946 — Apr 14, 2024
Cumberland
William C. Malloy, 77, of Cumberland, R.I., passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at the Hope Health Hospice Center, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the beloved husband of Paula (Fantasia) Malloy, and son of the late Thomas H. and Mary A. (Geddes) Malloy. He was a lifelong resident of Cumberland and Cape Cod.
He met Paula, the love of his life, on Cape Cod, where he summered most years of his life. They built a beautiful life together and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last August. William had many wonderful memories spending time on the Cape with his entire family.
Family was of the utmost importance to him. He loved sports and shared this passion with his sons. He was always his sons' biggest fan and rarely missed one of their baseball or hockey games. He enjoyed going to any game or performance in which a family member was participating. He never turned down an opportunity to share a good meal with family and friends.
Known to many as "Bill" or "Billy", he grew up near the family farm where he had wonderful memories of spending time with his extended family and interacting with the farm animals. A member of the Cumberland High School class of 1964 and the school's first football team, he went on to obtain his bachelor's degree at Roger Williams University. He advanced his career in the oil business at various companies, including the one his parents started, T.H. Malloy and Sons, as well as Agway, Inc., and Petro, where he retired as an Account Executive in 2009. Throughout his career, it brought him much joy to talk to anyone and everyone, and he found his true calling in this profession. His heart, however, always remained with the company his mother and father founded in 1935.
After being diagnosed with MCI, William was accepted into an Alzheimer's drug trial. The testing he went through for the trial was, at times, rigorous but he felt it was important to participate in the trial. Two years ago, the drug from the trial was approved by the FDA.
In addition to his loving wife, William is survived by his sons, Patrick Malloy, and his wife Lisa of Sutton, MA; Matthew Malloy and his fiancée Andrée Perkins of Cumberland. He was an extremely proud Grandpa to Natalie and Lillian Malloy, and a fun-loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Anne Mansi and Frances Gallella, brother Thomas J. Malloy, and nephews, Jay Gallella and Kevin Mansi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 10:30 A.M., in the Historic St. Joseph Church, 1303 Mendon Road Cumberland, RI. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Cumberland.
Arrangements are under the direction of the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) 245 Waterman Street, or Hope Health Hospice & Palliative Care (www.hopehealthco.org) 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
