Obituary

Vasiliki "Vaso" (Bloutsounis) Platsidakis, 91, of Central Falls, RI, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 1, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband Nikolaos and her son Michael.

Born in Athens, Greece on April 20, 1932, she was one of nine children born to the late Ioannis and Maria (Droukas) Bloutsounis. When World War II came to Greece in October of 1940, she witnessed first hand the horrors of both Nazi occupation during the war (1940-45), and the Greek Civil War (1946-49).

Vaso immigrated to Montreal, Canada in the late 1950s where she worked as a seamstress. It was in Canada where she formed many of the bonds and friendships that lasted the rest of her life. In Montreal she met her husband of 40 years, Nikolaos, and had two children. The young family then immigrated to the United States in 1969. She was a devout member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, Pawtucket, RI, for over 50 years.

Vaso is survived by her son Nikitas and his wife Chrysanthi; her grandchildren Vasiliki, Nikolaos and Konstantina, and Maria Platsidakis (daughter of the late Michael); and many nieces and nephews here, as well as in Canada, Greece, and around the world. May her memory be eternal.

Funeral service and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 97 Walcott St, Pawtucket, RI 02860(www.assumptionri.org/generaldonations).
