Obituary

Thomas William Glad, 86,  of Cumberland, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family.   He was the beloved husband of Connie (Bergeron) Glad and they had been married for the past 63 years.

Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Betty (Slater) and Bill Glad.  He resided in Cumberland for most of his life, previously residing in Lincoln.

Following high school, Thomas entered the United States Air Force, faithfully serving our nation, stationed in Wyoming, California and Japan during his time in the service.

Tom enjoyed boating, golfing, and listening to music.

Summers were often spent docked in Oak Bluffs Harbor on Martha's Vineyard.  Winters drew him to the warmth of Fort Lauderdale, where he enjoyed sunny days and the company of his beloved wife and family.

Tom was a passionate supporter of his family's athletic events.  He was a dedicated and passionate NASCAR, Boston Red Sox and Bruins, and New England Patriots fan.

A man of many talents, Tom knew how to fix almost anything at home or onboard  his boat "GLADNEST".  But boating wasn't always smooth sailing-- engine troubles could occasionally throw a wrench into his plans.   Fortunately, with his mechanical know-how, a determined spirit and a few curse words, he always managed to get things back on track so the adventure could continue.

Of course, Tom also knew how to relax, often with an ice-cold Budweiser in hand, savoring the joys of life surrounded by the people and places he loved most, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  For Tom, life was a celebration of family, friendship, and the simple pleasures that made every moment unforgettable.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, Donna Barboza and her husband David of Cumberland, his daughter, Laura Kutsaftis and her husband James of Middletown; his grandchildren, Dave, Olivia and Adam Barboza; Heather, Jasmine, Chrystal and Cameron Glad, and Trevor, Taylor, Talia and Tyra Kusaftis; and his seven great-grandchildren.  He was the father of the late William P. Glad, with whom he now shares a joyous reunion.

In accordance with his wishes, Tom's funeral and burial will be private.
