Rodney Wayne
Durkin
May 25, 1953 — Dec 5, 2025
Cumberland
CUMBERLAND
Rodney W. Durkin, 72, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 5, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the devoted husband of Monique (Demaire) Durkin. Married for 51 years and together for more than 60, theirs was a lifelong partnership marked by unwavering love and commitment.
Born in Woonsocket, Rodney was the son of Clarisse (Lamarre) Durkin of Pascoag and the late William H. Durkin. He was a proud, lifelong resident of Cumberland.
Rodney built a long and respected career in the construction industry, serving for many years as a superintendent. He later worked as a heavy equipment operator, a role he enjoyed until his retirement due to illness.
Rodney was happiest spending time outdoors—whether casting a line while fishing or tending to his yard, which brought him great joy and a sense of peace. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family gathered around the wood stove. His smile, strong work ethic, and steadfast devotion to those he loved will be forever remembered.
In addition to his beloved wife and mother, he leaves his children: Jessica L. Durkin of Little Compton; Melanie E. Lepore and her husband, James, of Cumberland; Jeremy R. Durkin of Pascoag; and Stephanie L. Durkin of Cumberland. He also leaves his siblings: William Durkin and Jane Auclair, both of Cumberland; Mark Durkin of Pascoag; David Durkin of Woonsocket; Holly Cook of Connecticut; and Kelley Pedro of Burrillville.
Rodney was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren—Bailey Durkin, Reagan Lepore, Aiden Williams, Loghan Durkin, and Sidney Lepore—each of whom brought him immense joy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and his loyal dog and buddy, Oliver. He was predeceased by his brothers, Brian Durkin and Neil L. Durkin.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Rodney's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Friday, December 12, 2025 from 4 to 8 PM and continue on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 8:30 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM in the Historic St. Joseph Church, Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will be private.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Hope Health, especially his nurse Valerie, for the kind and compassionate care in Rodney's final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Hope Health, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
