Roberta A. Smith (Greene), 88, of Lincoln, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at the Friendly Home in Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late Arthur T. Smith.
Born in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Veronica (Carney) Greene. She resided in Lincoln since 1983, previously residing in Narragansett.
Mrs. Smith was a manager for the former New England Telephone Company for 40 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was a communicant of St. Ambrose Church, Albion. She was the first president of the St. Joseph Church Women's Club and she was also a member of the Tuesday night ladies club for the past 50 years. Roberta founded a sewing guild to help provide heart pillows, infant hats and teddy bears for local hospitals and urgent care centers; as well as providing shoes, sneakers, mittens and hats for children in need at area schools. She was a dedicated and passionate New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan.
She is survived by her eight nieces and ten nephews, twenty grand nieces and sixteen grand nephews; as well as twenty five great grand nieces and eleven great grand nephews. She is the sister of the late Mary Egan, Nancy (Lynch) Fineran, and Joan Darlington.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Roberta's Life Celebration to be held with Visitation on Sunday, June 16, 2024 from 4 to 6 PM and continue on Monday, June 17, 2024 at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM in the St. Ambrose Church, Albion. Burial will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the St. Ambrose Church Renovation Fund, 191 School Street, Albion, RI 02802.
