Richard J. Grimes, 74, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Suzanne R. (Toner) Grimes. They have been married for the past 51 years.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Joseph and Florence (Hayden) Grimes. He resided in Cumberland for the past 10 years, previously residing in Pawtucket.
Rick proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy veteran during the Vietnam War.
He had a passion for fishing, loved riding motorcycles, and was always up for a good game of cribbage. He cherished his trips to Florida, but his greatest joy came from the time he spent with his beloved family.
He was employed as a submarine carpenter for Electric Boat for many years until his retirement. Rick was also a printer by trade, a career that became his passion. He worked at the former Samuel P. Harris Printing Co., of East Providence for 28 years, and the Night Owl Print Shop of Cumberland.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons: Dennis S. Grimes and his partner Suzanne Bouffard of Pawtucket, and Daniel P. Grimes of Cumberland. His three sisters: Emily Berndt and Ann Kay both of South Carolina, and Kathy Sawka of Cumberland. His seven grandchildren: Brianna, Jordyn, Alexandria, Jarrod, Madison, and Brooklyn Grimes, two great-grandchildren: Michael and Aleigha Grimes along with several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Sadie. He was also the brother of the late Patricia Theroux, Jackie Martin, Trudy Harris, Buddy Grimes, Donny Grimes, Eddie Grimes, Alan Grimes, and Bobby Grimes.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Rick's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 4 to 7 PM and continuing on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in the St. John Vianney Church, 3609 Diamond Hill Road Cumberland. Burial will follow in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association of RI, 245 Waterman Street #306 Providence, RI 02906 or the American Cancer Society of RI, PO Box 7312 Warwick, RI 02887.
