Raymond "Ray" A. Parent (93) of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2024. He was the beloved husband of the late Pauline (Bedard) Parent with whom he enjoyed 64 years together. Born in Central Falls on October 24, 1931, he was the third of four sons of the late Alfred and Angelina (Houle) Parent.

Seeking a life of adventure, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Army at age eighteen during the Korean War era. He rose to the rank of Corporal and served in an anti-aircraft artillery batallion and later served in the Army Reserves. He was employed by Brown and Sharpe for over thirty years until retiring in 1994 as the Manager of the Measuring Systems Group of North America.

Ray was a lifetime resident of Cumberland as well as a longtime communicant of St. Aidan Church. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, whose favorite moments were those spent with family and friends.

After they became empty nesters, Ray and his wife, Pauline, enjoyed traveling in their motorhome, setting foot in all provinces in Canada and all continental states except one. He was happiest on the road, camping and tinkering in his workshop. Later in life Ray and his wife spent winters in Florida. They enjoyed simple pleasures, spending time with their dearest friends and family. He could often be found zipping around in his golf cart in his retirement community. Ray will be remembered for his smile, his gentle spirit and for the kindness he showed to everyone he met. He made friends wherever he went and was always thinking of others before himself.

He leaves his cherished daughters and sons in law, Lorraine Parent of Lincoln, Diane Moriarty and her husband Terry of Stamford, CT, Kathy Goffe and her husband Kevin of Cumberland, and Denise Parent and her husband Jim Paquette of Falmouth, MA; his grandchildren, Patrick (Diana), Ryan (Samantha) and Connor (Christine) Moriarty, Olivia, Colin and William Goffe, and Isabelle and Jillian Paquette; his great-grandchildren, Makenna, Owen, Rosie, Finn, Grace, Quinn and Sophie Moriarty. He was the brother of the late Alfred Parent, Armand Parent, and George Parent.

His funeral and burial will be private.

The family wishes to acknowledge the kind and compassionate care provided to Ray by the staff of Briarcliffe Gardens and Briarcliffe Manor.
