Raymond "Sonny"
Dacosta
Jan 5, 1943 — Aug 13, 2025
Bonita Springs,
Raymond DaCosta, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. God called home another angel, and Ray took his place in Heaven, just as he had taken his place in the hearts of so many throughout his life.
Ray was a proud U.S. Navy veteran who served aboard the USS Essex. His strong work ethic and kind spirit carried through his professional life—at Pratt & Whitney, Brown University, Store 24s across New England, and finally as Facilities Manager at The Miriam Hospital, from which he retired with distinction.
After retirement, Ray settled in Bonita Springs, Florida, where he became a cherished part of the local community. He was known as the neighborhood Santa and was a trusted caretaker for many properties through his House Watch work.
Ray's warmth and generous nature left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
He was a devoted family man and is survived by his loving wife, Diane DaCosta; his children, Raymond DaCosta of Lincoln, RI; Nicole DaCosta Shadel of Pittsburgh, PA; Stevan Depointe of Cumberland, RI; and Heidi Felice of Cumberland, RI. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren: Brody, Hayden, and Morgan Felice; Auden Depointe; Sofia and Domenica DaCosta; and Mila and Gus Shadel.
Born to the late Louis Ignacio DaCosta and Maria (Mary) Jose Martin DaCosta, Ray was the youngest of nine siblings and was known affectionately as "Sonny." He was predeceased by his brothers Adolph Costa, Manuel (Manny) DaCosta, Louis Costa, and Herman (Hank) Costa; and his sisters Irene Costa Oliveira, Delores Costa Abelha, and Alexandrina (Babs) Costa Mulroy.
He is survived by his sister, Anne Costa Crabtree, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ray's legacy is one of service, laughter, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Ray's Life Celebration, to be held with Visitation on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland, RI. A prayer service will be offered at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Alzheimer's Research or The Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org).
