Raul C.A. DaSilva, aged 89, peacefully departed this life surrounded by his family on Monday, December 18, 2023, at The Miriam Hospital in Providence. He was the devoted husband of the late Judite (Oliveira) DaSilva.
Born in Branca, Portugal, he was the beloved son of the late Antonio and Maria (Coutinho) DaSilva. Raul journeyed to this country in 1978, establishing his roots in Pawtucket and later making Cumberland his home in 1992.
He was a passionate supporter of the Sporting CP soccer club and found joy in various hobbies such as fishing, playing cards, cooking, and gardening. However, his greatest source of happiness was spending cherished moments with his family, especially his three beloveds' great-grandchildren.
He took immense pride in his service as a Portuguese veteran in the Portuguese Army, stationed in Santa Margarida, Portugal. His dedication highlighted his unwavering commitment to his country."
Devoted to his craft, he dedicated many years of his life as a machine operator for M.H. Stallman Company in Providence, leaving an indelible mark until his well-deserved retirement.
He is survived by his daughter, Ana Maria Alves, and her husband, Sergio, of Cumberland. Also mourning his loss are his grandson, Sergio Miguel Alves Jr., and his wife, Kristen, along with his granddaughter, Ana Sofia Alves, and her wife, Sarah, all residing in Cumberland. Among those cherishing his memory are three great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Willow, and Hudson. Raul is also survived by two brothers, Manuel DaSilva and Armando "Messias" DaSilva, both of Portugal, and a sister, Beatriz Marques of Pawtucket. Additionally, he leaves behind several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Antonio DaSilva, Lourdes Silva, Alice Pereira, and Guiomar Nunes.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Raul's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, from 4 PM to 7 PM and continuing on Thursday, December 21, 2023, in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.
