He was an honorary member of Coral Herança Portuguesa, Cranston Portuguese Club, Clube Juventude Lusitana, Clube Recreativo Cultural de Warren, Casa do Benfica de Rhode Island, and was the Marshal of the Day of Portugal Parade in Rhode Island.

In addition to his wife and mother, he leaves his son, Dr. John-Paul Bettencourt of Florida; his siblings, Rodrigo Bettencourt of Florida and Maria Olivia McKone of Florida; as well as several nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
