With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael J. LaPlaca, aged 78, of Cumberland, who peacefully departed on April 2, 2024, at Lincolnwood Rehabilitation in North Providence after bravely facing Dementia. He leaves behind cherished memories that will forever warm the hearts of those who knew him. Michael was the loving father of Amanda LaPlaca of New Orleans and the devoted grandfather of Banks Britz.

Born in Chelsea, MA, Michael was the beloved son of the late Peter and Helen (Duffy) LaPlaca. For over two decades, he called Cumberland his home.

Michael dedicated his career to excellence as an Auto Body Manager for Jack Madden Ford Service in Norwood and several other esteemed body shops in the area.

Affectionately known as "Mike," he found joy in the simple pleasures of life—leisurely bicycle rides, the soulful melodies of Jazz and lounge music, and the serenity of flying a kite along Ocean Drive, always followed by a scoop of vanilla ice cream. His passion for car shows and antique vehicles knew no bounds; his keen memory could effortlessly recall every intricate detail. Mike was a man of few words, yet his presence exuded a quiet strength that drew others to him. His understated elegance, coupled with his dry wit and infectious chuckle, made him a beloved figure wherever he went. Proud of his Irish heritage, he adorned himself with a single shamrock tattoo, a testament to his roots.

In fond remembrance, he often bid farewell with the phrase "Au revoir" as a gentle reminder that partings are not forever.

To honor Michael's life, a private funeral and burial will be held.
