Melvyn J. Frydrych, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2024, at home. He was the husband of the late Margaret M. (Mulholland) Frydrych.

Born in Ipswich, MA., he was the son of the late Michael and Mildred A. (Swiszcz) Frydrych. Melvyn resided in Cumberland for the past 47 years, previously residing in Ipswich, MA.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with distinction during the Vietnam War. Rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class, he was honored with the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his bravery and dedication.

Mel was a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and of the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth

Mel was an avid sports enthusiast whose greatest joy came from supporting his family. Whether it was a game, recital, or special event, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his children and grandchildren from the sidelines. His unwavering dedication and enthusiasm left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to share in his love of sports, family, and life. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his selflessness, humble generosity, and the pride he took in his loved ones' accomplishments.

He was a commercial banker, employed for Bank of America formerly Fleet Bank for 37 years, until his retirement in 2004. He was the founder and president of the Fleet Precious Metals department. He was a board member of the W.R. Cobb Company up until his passing.

He is survived by his children: Kristen A. Ray and her husband Adam, Mary E. Ray and her husband Dan, and Michael J. Frydrych and his partner Lindsey all of Cumberland. His seven grandchildren: Jake, Brady, Maggie, Andrew, Aidan, Avery, and Hailey. His brother, Theodore Frydrych, Sheryl and their son Bryan of Maine, and his sister Andrea Frydrych of Ipswich, MA. He was the brother of the late Paul Frydrych.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Mel's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 10 AM to 12 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. Burial will be private.
