CUMBERLAND

Maurice W. CottonJr. , 81, of Cumberland passed away on Friday October 13, 2023 at home.  He was the husband of Sally J.  (Paige) Cotton and they had been happily married for the past 43 years.

Born in Milford, MA, he was the son of the late Maurice W. Cotton Sr. and the late Nina (Potter) Cotton.  He resided in Cumberland for most of his life, previously residing in North Attleboro, Florida and Connecticut.

Mr. Cotton was a United States Army, Vietnam Era veteran.

Maurice was employed as a truck driver with Teamsters Local 251 for 37 years until his retirement in 2004.

"Moe" as he was affectionately known, enjoyed playing cribbage and word games, doing puzzles, and spending time with his family, especially his pets.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his two sons, James D. Purcell and Michael W. Cotton, both of Cumberland; his two daughters, Patricia Scherer and Michelle Cotton, both of Seekonk; his brother, Joseph Cotton of Pembroke, MA; his two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his nieces and nephews, as well as many family and close friends.   He was the brother of the late Charles Cotton and Alison Dearden.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Moe's Life Celebration to be held with a prayer service with military honors on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11 AM at  J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
