CUMBERLAND
Mary T. (McCarthy) Tweedie, 93, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 1, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Francis H. Tweedie.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Mary (O'Brien) McCarthy. Mary had been a proud resident of Cumberland for most of her life.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mary dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was a longtime communicant and active member of St. Joan of Arc Church, where she volunteered at parish functions, bazaars, and family picnics.
Mary enjoyed bowling, traveling, especially trips to Maine and Cape May, and entertaining family and friends. However, her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving children: Eileen F. Tweedie, Anne T. Wildgoose (Joseph), Grace Menard (Jean), Kathleen E. Lessard (William), Jeanmarie Leach (Michael), Carol L. Crossland (Mark), Francis X. Tweedie (Laurie), Timothy A. Tweedie, and Richard T. Tweedie (Lorie Gill); and her daughter-in-law Patricia Tweedie. She also leaves behind sixteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.Mary was predeceased by her children Mary A. Tweedie, Barbara A. Bouvier, and John H. Tweedie; her grandson Benjamin F. Tweedie; and her siblings Helen Maguire, Raymond McCarthy, and John McCarthy.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Mary's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 from 5 to 8 PM and continue on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt.122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in the St. Joan of Arc Church, Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's memory to Hope Health Hospice, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
