Mary G. (Cherella) Palumbo, 98, of Cumberland passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Roland Palumbo.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Stella (DeMonte) Cherella. She resided in Cumberland since 1961, previously residing in North Providence.
Mrs. Palumbo was employed as a Purchasing Agent for the Vitrus Incorporated for over 35 years until her retirement. In retirement she worked as a Sales Associate for Macy's in North Attleborough, a job she enjoyed going to every day where she made lasting friendships.
Mary was a communicant of St. Aidan Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling, sewing, crossword puzzles, but most of all spending time with her family. She was a dedicated and passionate New England Patriots fan.
She leaves her children, Carinda S. Palumbo of Cumberland, Nicholas R. Palumbo and his partner Tony Tsang of Cumberland and Nancy A. Palumbo of Cumberland; her two grandchildren, Michael J. Smith and his wife Sara of Killingly, CT and Leah M. Smith, Ph.D. of New Zealand; as well as her niece and three nephews. She was the sister of the late Jennie Tanzi and Angelo Cherella.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Mary's Life Celebration to be held with Visitation on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 5 to 8 PM and continue on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 9 AM in the J J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in the St. Aidan/St. Patrick Parish, 1460 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland, RI. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hope Health, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
