Mary E. McIntosh, 80, passed away Monday, August 26, 2024, in the Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence, surrounded and comforted by her adoring family.

Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Alice (McGinn) Fitzgibbons. She resided in Cumberland for forty-five years, previously residing in Camphill, PA, Montgomery, AL, Cape Cod and Lynn, Massachusetts.

Mary attended secretarial school upon graduating from Lynn Classical High. She worked for the federal government for most of her career including Maxwell Airforce Base, Montgomery, AL, the Social Security Administration and VA in Providence, RI and for the last twenty-five years before retiring, the US Army Natick Research, Development and Engineering Center, US Army Troop Support Command, where she held distinguished civilian positions, Secretary to the Commander General and Protocol Officer. During Mary's tenure, she received many awards and letters of appreciation and was bestowed with numerous challenge coins from Generals and Colonels, a military tradition of recognizing service beyond the call of duty.

Following retirement, Mary sought part-time employment by the Cumberland School Department as an elementary school bus monitor, and took on her most rewarding role, "Best Nana Ever" aka "Camp Nana," stepping in to help care for her young grandchildren, whenever and wherever needed.

Mary is survived by her son Michael McIntosh and his wife Michelle, and two daughters: Cheryl Ferreira and her husband David, and Coleen Goodreau and her husband Richard, all of Cumberland.
She is pre-deceased by her son, Kenneth McIntosh (2005).
Eight grandchildren brought her immense pride and happiness: Richard Goodreau and his wife Nadia, Lauren Ferreira, Kelsey Monahan and her husband Brysen, Rachel Goodreau, Jeffrey Ferreira, Kathryn McIntosh, Allison Goodreau and Angela Ferreira. Mary is survived by her siblings: Thomas Fitzgibbons (Judy) of San Diego, Peter Fitzgibbons (Carmen) College Park, MD, Paul Fitzgibbons (Jeri) Exeter, NH, and Christine Renshaw, Seekonk, MA, along with nephew, Shea and nieces, Kristen, and Ashley.
Mary was the former spouse of Howard N. McIntosh, with whom she maintained an amicable friendship, along with his wife Cindy, and their family.

Mary was a Red Sox fan, mostly when they were winning, enjoying Sox-in-2 as much as live broadcasts.  She liked traveling, once to Ireland and twice to Italy and visited several national parks and monuments in California, South Dakota, Arizona, and Washington DC.   She devoured multiple newspapers per day along with the crosswords, and kept abreast of the forecast, making sure the family was prepared with all necessary groceries for impending storms. Mary played in a golf league for several years. Most of all, Mary was happiest spending time and making memories with her family and treasured friends, and doting on her faithful and loyal companions, Harley, Biscuit, Abby, and Toby.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Mary's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 4-7 pm and continuing Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 8:30 am, J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am, St. Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Avenue Providence. The burial will be private.
