Mary C. (McGurn) Marrapese, 85, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, in the Holiday Retirement Home, Manville with her family by her side.  She was the wife of the late William Marrapese.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late James and Irene (Devlin) McGurn. Mary resided in Central Falls for the past 30 years, previously residing in Cranston where she spent most of her life.

Mary was a proud graduate of St. Xavier Academy in Providence, an institution that shaped her early years and instilled in her the values she carried throughout her life. A friend of "Bill W." for more than 50 years, Mary found a community and a purpose within the fellowship. Her eternal gratitude for the support she received was evident in her tireless efforts to help countless others who shared her journey. Her compassion and commitment were the cornerstones of her life, and she embodied the spirit of paying it forward.

As a devoted mother and sister, Mary's family was her heart. She cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was cooking up delicious meals, hunting for treasures at yard sales, or simply enjoying each other's company. Her love for cooking was matched only by her love for shopping, and she had a knack for finding joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Mary's vibrant spirit shone brightly in her love for dancing and listening to music. She made friends wherever she went, her warm and welcoming nature drawing people to her effortlessly. Her joy was infectious, and she had a special place in her heart for the beach. The feeling of freedom she experienced while riding her beach bike along the shoreline was unmatched. It was her sanctuary, a place where she could let go and embrace the beauty of the moment.

An avid New England Patriots fan, Mary had a particular fondness for Tom Brady. She never missed a game and cheered passionately for her favorite team. Those fortunate enough to ride in her car likely have unforgettable memories of those times. Her car rides were an experience, filled with laughter, music, and the kind of conversations that left lasting impressions.

Mary lived life on her own terms and her own schedule. She was a strong, proud Irish woman with a fierce independence. You could tell her things, but only up to a point; she valued her autonomy and made decisions with conviction. Her strength was matched by her kindness and generosity. Mary was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off her back, always putting others before herself.

In her later days, Mary found a new home at the Holiday Retirement Home, where she was loved and cared for by a dedicated staff. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Holiday for their extraordinary care, compassion, and kindness. They provided Mary with comfort and dignity, and for that, the family is eternally thankful.Mary leaves us now, but her legacy of love, kindness, and strength will endure.

She lived a life full of meaning, touching the hearts of everyone she met. As we remember Mary, we celebrate a life well-lived and a woman who left an indelible mark on the world. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her, and her memory will be cherished forever.

She is survived by her daughter Patricia Marrapese and her partner Charlie Costa of Cumberland;  along with several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Anna Rose LeFrancois.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Mary's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Sunday, July 14, 2024 from 4:30 PM to 6 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Cumberland.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 10 AM in St. Jude Church, Front Street, Lincoln.  Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Hotel for Homeless Animals, Berkeley Oval, 44 Martin St, Cumberland, RI 02864.
