Mario E. Machado, 89, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, in the Plainfield Backus Hospital, Plainfield, CT. He was the husband of the late Maria U. (Araujo) Machado.

Born in Terceira, Azores, he was the son of the late Antonio and Adelaide (Estrela) Machado. Mario came to this country in 1978 settling in Pawtucket.

Mario enjoyed fishing with his family as well as his best friend Benjamin. He was an avid gardener and loved planting all kinds of fruit trees, pruning his grape vines, as well as planting and tending to other fruits and vegetables.

Mario was a machine operator for RI Textile Company for many years, until his retirement in 1998.

He is survived by his children; Sonia Corbin and her husband Joseph of Sterling, CT., Ursulina Bechard and her husband Kevin of Cumberland, Mario Machado and his wife Lurdes of Pawtucket and Jose Machado and his wife Dawn of Yalaha, FL. He is survived by one brother and two sisters all in Portugal. His six grandchildren; Kevin Machado, Kevin Bechard, Tayla Machado, Hunter Bechard, Grace Corbin, and Aiden Corbin. Four great- grandchildren; Paige, Van, Haidyn and Rylann Mae, along with several nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Joseph Machado and five brothers.

Mario's Life Celebration will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, beginning with Visiting Hours from 9:00am-10:30am in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive Cumberland. Burial will be held in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.
