CUMBERLAND

Maria Flor (Andrade) Jorge, 89, of Rumford, formerly of Cumberland passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at the Linn Health Care Center in East Providence.

Born in Penha, Brazil, she moved to this country on Feb. 9, 1963 to raise her family.  She spent three days a week teaching herself English and would be off to work the other days.

Mrs. Jorge was employed by Paramount Cards for over 30 years, and she also was a talented seamstress who worked in various other area factories.

Maria enjoyed singing, dancing, gardening and was a devoted and loving mother.  Those who love her will always remember her giving spirit, and even at one time she gave her own sandals to a little girl who did not have any shoes.  She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for over 15 years.   Among all her wonderful qualities, the most impressive was her true passion in life, caring for her loved ones.

She leaves her daughter, Jeanine Turner and her husband Sean of East Providence,  her daughter, Christine Esposito and her husband Kenneth Santos and her daughter, Pauline Pappa  and her husband Bruce, all of Tennessee; her grandchildren, Jennifer Card, Katrina Esposito, Cassondra Pappa,  Alexandra Pappa Calhoun and her husband Zachary, Stephan Turner and Madison Turner; and  her seven great-grandchildren. She was the sister of twelve other brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Maria's Life Celebration to be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 with Visiting Hours from 9 AM to 11 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home,  757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland.  A prayer service will be held at 11 AM in the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Meals on Wheels of RI, 70 Bath St, Providence, RI 02908.
