CUMBERLAND

Maria da Conceicao Pitta Ferreira, 89, of Cumberland passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at the Rhode Island Hospital, Providence.  She was the wife of the late Joao Manuel Pita Ferreira.

Born in Santa Cruz, Madeira, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Luis Franca and Isabel (Ivens-Ferraz) Pitta. She moved to this country in 1975, settling in Newark, NJ for a short time and later moving to Cumberland where she spent most of her life.   Most recently she resided in Lincoln with her daughter and son-in-law.

She worked for many area jewelry factories, and later worked at CCL Custom Manufacturing where she worked for 23 years.

Maria enjoyed knitting, reading, but most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.  She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland.

She leaves her daughter, Rita Pires and her husband Anibal of Lincoln;her two grandsons, Jason Pires and his wife Kendra of Cumberland and Nicholas Pires and his wife Jaclyn of Abington, MA; her great-granddaughter, Keira Pires. She also leaves her sister, Teresa Ivens-Ferraz Pitta Ferraz of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.  She was the sister of the late, Maria da Paz  Ivens-Ferraz Gouveia, Rui Ivens-Ferraz Pitta, Jose Ivens-Ferraz Pitta, Joao Ivens-Ferraz Pitta, Luis Ivens-Ferraz Pitta, Manuela Ivens-Ferraz Pitta Mendes, and Isabel Ivens-Ferraz Pitta DaSilva.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Maria's Life Celebration to be held with Visitation on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 from 9 AM to 11 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland  A prayer service will be held  at 11 AM in the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and CNA's for their loving and compassionate care  at Waterview Villa and Rhode Island Hospital.

Maria da Conceição Ferreira, de 89 anos, de Cumberland, faleceu na quinta-feira, dia 30 de julho de 2026, no Rhode Island Hospital, em Providence. Era viúva de João Manuel Pita Ferreira.

Natural de Santa Cruz, Madeira, Portugal, era filha dos já falecidos Luís França e Isabel (Ivens-Ferraz) Pitta. Emigrou para os Estados Unidos em 1975, fixando-se inicialmente em Newark, Nova Jérsia, durante um curto período, mudando-se posteriormente para Cumberland, onde viveu a maior parte da sua vida. Mais recentemente, residia em Lincoln, com a sua filha e o seu genro.

Trabalhou em várias fábricas de joalharia da região e, mais tarde, na CCL Custom Manufacturing, empresa onde exerceu funções durante 23 anos.

A Maria gostava de tricotar, de ler e, acima de tudo, de passar tempo com a sua família, especialmente com os seus queridos netos. Era paroquiana da Igreja de Nossa Senhora de Fátima, em Cumberland.

Deixa a sua filha, Rita Pires e o seu marido, Aníbal, de Lincoln; os seus dois netos, Jason Pires e a sua esposa, Kendra, de Cumberland, e Nicholas Pires e a sua esposa, Jaclyn, de Abington, Massachusetts; e a sua bisneta, Keira Pires. Deixa ainda a sua irmã, Teresa Ivens-Ferraz Pitta Ferraz, da Florida, bem como vários sobrinhos e sobrinhas. Era irmã dos já falecidos Maria da Paz Gouveia, Rui Ivens-Ferraz Pitta, José Ivens-Ferraz Pitta, João Pitta, Luís Ivens-Ferraz Pitta, Manuela Ivens-Ferraz Pitta Mendes e Isabel Ivens-Ferraz Pitta DaSilva.

Familiares e amigos são convidados a prestar a sua última homenagem à Maria durante a celebração da sua vida, com velório na terça-feira, dia 4 de agosto de 2026, entre as 9h00 e as 11h00, na J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road (Route 122), Cumberland. Será realizada uma cerimónia de oração às 11h00 na própria funerária. O funeral seguirá para o Cemitério de Mt. Calvary, em Cumberland, onde terá lugar a inumação.
