It is with great sorrow, we would like to announce the passing of Maria Duarte, 85, she passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022 in Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence. She was the wife of Jose L. Duarte. They have been married for the past 62 years.

Born in Faial, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Sousa) Gomes. Maria came to this country in 1965, settling in Providence, RI.

Maria's passions in life were knitting, cooking, gardening and her family.

She was employed as a factory worker at Teknor Apex for many years until her retirement in 2009. Previously she was employed by Lincoln Lace for many years.

Besides her husband she is survived by her two children: Steven J. Duarte and his wife Teresa of Cumberland, Suzey M. Lizotte and her husband Michael of Lincoln. Two sisters; Beatrice Pereira of San Jose, CA., and Matilde Mancebo of Galt, CA. Her four grandchildren; Nicholas, Kathryn, Matthew, and Maegan, and her great grand-daughter Hazel. She was the sister of the late Jose Domingos Gomes and Gabriela Sousa Gomes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.
