Maria Leonina
Azevedo
Apr 26, 1939 — Jul 10, 2024
Cumberland and Central Falls
Born in Lajes, Terceira, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Serafim and Filomena (Costa) deAguiar. She moved to this country in 1973, settling in Cumberland and later moving to Central Falls. She most recently resided in Lincoln with her son.
Mrs. Azevedo was employed as a Weaver for the former Cadilac Textiles in Cumberland for 13 years.
Maria was a devoted communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Cumberland, and her life was a testament to the power of love and family. She cherished every moment spent caring for her loved ones, finding joy in tending to her vibrant garden and playing an instrumental role in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Maria's heart was split between her beloved hometown of Lajes, Terceira in the Azores, the sunny shores of California where she visited her sister, and the warmth of Florida where she shared precious time with her daughter. Her Portuguese heritage was a source of pride, and she embraced its rich cultural traditions, especially the exuberant celebrations of Carnival. Maria's life was a beautiful mosaic of family, culture, and devotion, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
She leaves her daughter, Maria Andrade and her husband Jose of Greenville, Francisco Azevedo and his wife Diane of Pawtucket, Paul Azevedo of Lincoln, Nelia Rapa and her husband Ron of Cranston and Florida and Adelino Azevedo of London; her sister, Adilia Neves and her husband Antonio of California; her fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; as well as her nieces, Fatima and Judy and her nephew, Rui in California. She was the mother of the late Alvaro Azevedo and the late Francisco Azevedo as well as aunt of the late Jose Antonio Neves.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Maria's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 from 9 AM to 11:30 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 NOON at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Mt.
