CUMBERLAND

Marc Nelson Nyberg , son of C. Elmer Nyberg and Ruth Linnea Nyberg, died Tuesday February 17, at the Hope Health Center Hospice after a 6 month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Marc was born December 27, 1955 and was raised in Cumberland, RI returning to live in his family home in 2000.

Marc was proud of his accomplishments as a land surveyor and was well-known for his expertise in RI and MA.

Marc loved hot air ballooning, animals, camping, gardening and enhancing his home and yard known as Nybergia. He and his wife and soulmate Deirdre (Dee) were married in Nybergia in 2001 in a hot air balloon with a weekend long celebration. He collected fossils, rocks and geodes. He loved and was fascinated by stained glass décor.

Marc was loved by all who knew him as a kind, gentle loving generous friend. Marc loved having large parties, amusing friends with his silly antics and costumes. No one appreciated his silliness more than Marc, spreading his contagious laughter. He proudly rejected new technology referring to himself as an "analog man".

For the past 10 years, Marc and Dee traveled frequently to New Mexico, where their small adobe off-grid cabin has been renovated for visits with their youngest son and granddaughter. Marc loved the southwest landscape and the wonderful friends he attracted there.

Marc is survived by his wife Deirdre (Dee), his 4 sons, Isaiah, Elisha (Melody), Joshua and Kelby, his sister Pamela Carpenter (Louis), niece Caitlyn Carpenter White (Robert), Louis Christian Carpenter (Haley); his grandchildren, Dlorah Hussey, Mikaela Nyberg, and Idyllwild Nyberg.  He is also survived by his brother-in-law Donald Flynn (Alma) of San Antonio, nephews Donald, Marc and Matthew as well as 6 great nieces and nephews. Marc was pre-deceased by his parents, his beloved grandson Aydan J. Nyberg and his constant companion, his dog Tucker.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to an informal Life Celebration for Marc on Friday, February 20, 2026 from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland.  A prayer service and sharing of memories will take place at 1:30 PM.
