Manuel R. Currais Sr., 82, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family in RI Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Lealdina R. (Pereira) Currais for the past 62 years.
Born in Arcos de Valdevez ,Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose R. and Custodia Cerqueira (Rodrigues) Currais. Manuel came to this country in 1964, originally settling in Fall River and then Pawtucket/Lincoln for the past 20 years.
Manuel was known for his capabilities and knowledge in car and tech repairs and being an avid Benfica fan. Manuel mostly enjoyed spending time with family, especially his 3 grandchildren and being able to watch the soccer games with them. He was also an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting in New England and in Portugal.
Manuel was a supervisor for Rhode Island Textile Co., Pawtucket for more than 30 years until his retirement. He previously was employed in Portsmouth where he finished boat interiors and gained vast knowledge of finish carpentry. He also owned Holiday Auto, Central Falls for many years. Manuel also served in the Portuguese Navy and will be remembered for his bravery and commitment.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Manuel R. Currais Jr., of Lincoln, and Fatima R. Oliveira and her husband Ulysses of Central Falls. His two brothers: David Currais of Portugal, and Fred Currais of New Jersey. Three sisters: Maria Araujo, Conceicao Cerqueira, and Rosa Barboza all of New Jersey. His three grandchildren: Branden Oliveira, Kelsey Oliveira, and Tyler Currais, along with many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late: Antonio Currais, John Currais, and Jose Currais.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Manuel's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 11 AM, followed by a Prayer Service at 11 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. Burial will be held in the Vale Cemetery, Vale, Portugal.
