Laura was the devoted wife of Alfred Almeida and were married in Providence, RI in July of 1946. They welcomed 12 children and her husband passed away in 1990. Her children are Glen, Jeff and Sharlene Almeida of Cumberland. Rodney Almeida of Pawtucket, Wendell Almeida and his wife Dee Dee of Erie CO, Sheldon Almeida and his wife Trisha of Temecula CA. Tim Almeida of Corona CA, Debby Lamontagne and her spouse Ray of Daytona Beach FL. Paul Almeida (deceased) and his wife Ilona (d) of Ft. Myers FL. Sheila Scull (d), and John of Boca Raton FL. Leigh Almeida (d) and wife Lori-Ann of Cumberland, Duane Almeida (d) and his wife Rosie also in Cumberland. Laura has 20 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
On January 12th this year, a 100th birthday celebration was held at the Chapel Hill Assisted Living center in Cumberland. All of her immediate family were in attendance to help celebrate this occasion. Mrs. Almeida is a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She is also known as VoVo or Honey to her grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Almeida, were active members of the Lusitania Portuguese Club and Our Lady of Fatima Church, and were known for their lively Saturday evenings, where they danced the night away with close friends. Alfred was also a dedicated member of the Lions Club. Laura, a devoted wife, mother, and loving grandparent, found joy in cooking, particularly her delectable Portuguese cuisine. Shopping was another of her favorite pastimes. They were avid travelers, exploring the United States and Europe with great pleasure. Their family were overjoyed in celebrating this remarkable centenarian milestone. Laura will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Laura's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Monday, July 7, 2025 from 4 to 7 PM and continue on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Chistian Burial will be held at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
