Obituary

Josephine F. (Zambuto) Dunbar, 97, of Cumberland passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at home surrounded by her loving family.  She was the wife of the late Thomas G. Dunbar.

Born in East Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Giuseppe Zambuto and Carmella Vella.  She resided in Cumberland for over 30 years, previously residing in Boston and Hyde Park, MA.

Josephine graduated from the former Saint Maragaret School of Nursing in Boston, and was employed as a Registered Nurse for the Boston City Hospital and also the Mass General Hospital up until the long-awaited birth of her daughter.

Josephine grew up in East Boston and enjoyed swimming with her friends in waters that would become part of Logan International Airport. When she was a young teen, she met the love of her life Thomas "Tommy" G. Dunbar, whom she wed in 1951.  Josephine enjoyed gardening, holding a special fondness for marigolds and petunias, with which she regularly adorned her Hyde Park residence.  Josephine and Tommy moved to Cumberland to be closer to their daughter and her family in the early 1990's.  While in Cumberland, Josephine was a communicant of the St. Aidan/St. Patrick Parish.  She regularly attended activities at the Cumberland Senior Center at the Monastery, making many new friends and memories.  Later in life Josephine developed an interest in reading, a mind for jigsaw puzzles, became a dedicated and passionate Boston Red Sox fan, and came to thoroughly enjoy the movie "Elf".  Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.

She leaves her daughter, Mary Alberg and her husband Philip of Cumberland;  her grandchildren, Timothy Alberg and Matthew Alberg, both of Warwick and Elizabeth Alberg and Katherine Alberg, both of Cumberland;  her brother, Domenic Zambuto of Norwell, MA;  as well as several nieces and nephews.  She was the grandmother of the late Joseph M. Alberg and sister of the late Anthony Zambuto, Anna Camarda and Joseph Zambuto.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Josephine's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Monday, January 13, 2025 from 4 to 7 PM and continue on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 9 AM in the J.
