CUMBERLAND
Joseph A. Charchafliah, 80, of Cumberland, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Hope Health and Palliative Care, Providence. He was the loving husband of 53 years of the late Najat (Haddad) Charchafliah.
Born in Omdurman, Sudan, he was the son of the late Antoun Basil Charchafliah and Nacima Saleem (Kabbabeh) Charchafliah. He emigrated to this country in 1965, settling in Central Falls, and later residing in Cumberland for most of his life.
He entered the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam era from 1968 to 1971 and was honorably discharged.
Joseph was a co-owner with his brother of J & G Napa Auto Parts in Pawtucket for many years until his retirement. In retirement he worked for a time for McLaughlin Auto Parts in Cumberland.
He was a member of the St. Basil the Great Parish family, and was active in many church functions. Joesph enjoyed traveling, listening to Syrian music, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. Those who love him will remember his strong work ethic, his sense of humor, and the love he carried for his family, especially his wife Najat.
He leaves his daughter, Nina Charchafliah Unsworth of Cumberland and her fiance Wayne Dow of Connecticut; his two grandsons, Stephen Unsworth and Matthew Unsworth, both of Cumberland; his siblings, Jacqueline Abagi of Australia, Janette Mashata of Florida, and Josephine King of Pawtucket; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George Charchafliah, Georgette Saggal, Johnny Charchafliah and Basille Charchafliah.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Joseph's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Monday, September 23, 2024 from 4-7 PM at St. Basil the Great Church, 15 Skyview Drive, Lincoln. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 10 AM. Burial will follow at St. Basil Cemetery, Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Tommorow Fund, 593 Eddy St, Providence, RI 02903.
