PAWTUCKET

Jose T. Mortagua, 80, of Pawtucket, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2025 at home surrounded by the love of his family.  He was the husband of Maria Nunes Da Silva Mortagua and they had been married for the past 55 years.

Born in Pinheiro da Bemposta, Portugal, he was the son of the late Augusto Da Costa Mortagua and the late Margarida De Jesus Tavares Mortagua.  He moved to this country in 1980, settling in Pawtucket.

Mr. Mortagua, was employed by MH Stallman Company in Providence for more than 40 years until his retirement.

He was a dedicated and passionate Porto Soccer fan.  In addition he was one of the original team members of Pinheirense Soccer Team.   He was also a member and former board member of the Portuguese Social Club in Pawtucket.  He most enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his children,  Maria Mortagua Doukas an her husband Tasos of Cumberland, and Jose Carlos Mortagua of Pawtucket; his two grandchildren, Sophia and Andrew Doukas; his siblings, Manuel Tavares Mortagua, Valdemar Tavares Mortagua, Augusto Tavares Mortagua, Joao Tavares Mortagua, Maria Alice Tavares Mortagua Barbosa, Maria de Lurdes Tavares Mortagua Quaresma, Albina Tavares Mortagua Da Fonseca, Beatriz Tavares Mortagua Vilar, Fernanda Adelia Tavares Mortagua Gomes, Margarida Maria Tavares Mortagua Rato; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Jose's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Saturday from 9-10:30 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM in St. Anthony Church, Lawn Avenue, Pawtucket.  Burial will take place at a later date in the Town Cemetery of Pinheiro da Bemposta, Portugal.
