CENTRAL FALLS

Jose L. Costa, 86, of Central Falls, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at home.  He was the husband of Maria A. (Vicente) Costa, and they had been married for 60 years.

Born in Esporoes, Penalva do Castelo, Portugal, he was the son of the late Paulo Costa  and Nazare (de Almeida) Costa.  He moved to this country in 1968, settling in Cumberland and later moving to Central Falls where he resided for most of his life.

Mr. Costa was employed as Machine Operator for The Okonite Company for 27 years until his retirement in 2000 at the age of 62.

Jose was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and vacationing in his home in Cascais, Portugal, but most of all loved spending time with his family.  Those who love him will remember his love for family and friends, as well as his love for nature and feeding wildlife in the backyard of his home.  He was a handyman, and could fix almost anything.

In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his two children, Luis M.  Costa and his wife Lynn of Smithfield and Paula M. Lopes and her husband John of Cumberland; his siblings, Emilia Araujo and Jorge Costa, both of Cascais, Portugal; his four grandchildren, Nichole,  Devin, Michael and Matthew; his one great-granddaughter, Nora; as well as several nieces and nephews.   He was the brother of the late Manuel Costa.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Jose's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Monday, October 14, 2024 from 5 to 8 PM and continue on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland.   Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.
