John A. Matta, 92, of Cumberland, RI, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, in the Mt. Saint Rita Health Center, Cumberland.

He was the husband of Anna J. {Salus) Matta and they have been
married for the past 71 years. Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Frank and Josephine (Gouveia) Matta. He resided in Cumberland for many years.

He was a United States Navy, World War II Veteran, he was a seaman apprentice and stationed at Little Creek, VA. Mr. Matta was the former owner of Central Beverage Distribution Company for many
years until his retirement.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his daughter, Leslie A. Tordoff of Cumberland, his sister Clara Lavelle of Cumberland, five grandchildren: Becky, John, Kim, Rob, and Brian, five great-grandchildren: Blaise, Rocco, Winter, Opie, and Ruby, daughter-in-law Colleen Matta of North
Carolina, along with several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late John A. Matta Jr., father-in-law of the late Robert J. Tordoff, and brother of the late Hilda Cabral, Lillian Matthews, Irene Souza, Isabel Mello, George Matta, and Frank Matta Jr.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Prayer Service on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 11 AM in the Resurrection Cemetery Chapel, 351 West Wrentham Road Cumberland, RI. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Northern RI Food Pantry, 1 Angell Road Cumberland, RI 02864.
