Joao Almeida, 89, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022 in the RI Hospital, Providence surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Maria Adelia Almeida. They have been married for 61 years.

Born in Castelo de Penalva, Portugal, he was the son of the late Joaquim and Maria (Patrocino) de Almeida. Joao came to the United States in 1978, settling in Central Falls.

He enjoyed making wine and moonshine. He was an avid gardener, and fisherman. He also enjoyed hunting and his dogs, but most of all he enjoyed his time spent with his loving family. Joao also really enjoyed attending the many Portuguese Feasts, listening to music and dancing, and in his younger days he entertained everyone as he played his harmonica.

Beside his wife, he is survived by his children; Grace Fonseca and her husband Mario of Cumberland; Augusta Fernandes and her husband Anthony of Attleboro; and Fernando Almeida and his wife Lisa of Rehoboth. His two brothers; Arture de Almeida, and Lidio de Almeida both of Portugal. His four grandchildren and their spouses; Ricardo Fernandes; Stacey Picher; Nickolas Almeida; Zackary Almeida and one great-granddaughter Morgan Picher. He was the brother of the late; Antonio de Almeida; Maria Patrocino; Adelaide dos Santos; and Horacio de Almeida.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Joao's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 from 5 PM to 8 PM and continuing on Thursday July 21, 2022 at 10 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, the family request to have a mass arranged in Joao's memory.
