James F. O'Halloran Jr., 70, of Smithfield, R.I., formerly of Cumberland, R.I., Walpole, Mass., and West Roxbury, Mass., passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, with his family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Nancy (Rabczak) O'Halloran; they had been married 42 years.

Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam era. He was a musician and singer with the bands The Moonshiners, Oasis, and The Tillermen; he met his wife at a performance of her band, White Gold.

He graduated from Catholic Memorial High School, West Roxbury, Mass., and attended Iona College before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, where he served honorably for four years. He also attended Salem State College and holds a degree from Dean College.

His career in information technology led him through the ranks of several large corporations, serving as director of IT, vice president, and chief information officer. His career took him around the globe and he enjoyed meeting people of other cultures, treasuring the relationships and mutual respect he shared with so many. He retired in 2023 as IT director for the city of Newport. He also was co-founder and principal of Fogline Systems Inc., an IT consulting company.

Jim cherished spending time with his family and friends at his summer home on Sebago Lake in Maine, where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and getting away from it all. He was most proud of his Irish heritage.

Perhaps what Jim will be most remembered for, though, is his innate leadership. Born a true teacher, his ability to use storytelling and mentorship is what drove his cultivation of deep relationships both professionally and personally. He possessed an unwavering moral compass which didn't always lead him to the easiest outcomes, but always the just ones. He lived the life he chose, as a man of impeccable integrity and character, which is a life that his family is extremely proud of and lucky to have shared with him.

Besides his wife, he leaves his children Kristen Dougherty, Casey Burns and Peter O'Halloran; and grandchildren Camden, Reagan and Weston Jackson, and Theodore and Daisy Burns. He was especially close to his son-in-law Matthew Burns. He was the brother of Ellen Conway, Mary Tierney, Kathleen O'Halloran, Patricia Kucharski and Joseph O'Halloran; and the son of the late James F. O'Halloran Sr., and the late Mary (McDonough) O'Halloran.

Family and friends are invited to Jim's Life Celebration, with visiting hours on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, from 10 a.m. to noon, in the J.J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Route 122, Cumberland, with a prayer service at noon, followed by burial with military honors at Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
