James H. Malloney, a distinguished individual who touched the lives of many, peacefully departed this world on Monday, August 21, 2023, at the age of 99, within the solace of his Cumberland residence, enveloped by the warm embrace of his cherished family. He had been the beloved spouse of the late Madeleine C. (Messier) Malloney, their enduring union spanning nearly seven decades until her passing.

Born in Pawtucket, Mr. Malloney was the esteemed son of James A. and Elizabeth M. (Hildebrande) Malloney, now preceding him in death. His home in Cumberland exceeded half a century, following a prior residence in Pawtucket.

A graduate of the inaugural class of Hope High School's new building in 1941, he stood among the first to receive diplomas from its hallowed halls.

During the tumultuous days of World War II, Mr. Malloney's indomitable spirit led him to the United States Navy, where he embarked upon a journey of bravery and sacrifice aboard the USS Oakland. His service in the Navy was marked not only by his unwavering commitment but also by his remarkable achievements. As a testament to his courage and dedication, he was adorned with numerous accolades, including the American Theater Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, and the prestigious Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal,  which bore a constellation of ten stars. His valor extended to the Philippine Liberation Medal, which proudly bore two stars, underscoring his pivotal role in the liberation of a nation.

He was a respected member of the American Legion Post 79 in Central Falls. Beyond his military affiliations, Mr. Malloney reveled in his participation in various bowling and golf leagues, passions that brought him joy and camaraderie. His benevolent spirit extended to coaching CYO Baseball teams for an extended period, leaving a lasting impact on young lives. James worked for Sun Oil Company for many years, until his retirement in 1985.

Survived by his loving children, Maureen McGee and her husband Patrick of Warren, James E. Malloney of North Providence, and William C. Malloney of Cumberland, his legacy thrives through his ten adoring grandchildren and seven cherished great-grandchildren. Additionally, numerous nieces and nephews recall his kindness. He was predeceased by his siblings Elizabeth Shappell, Helen Malloney, Rose Trost, and Eileen Grim.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to James's Life Celebration to be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 with Visiting Hours from 4 to 7 PM and continue on Friday August 25, 2023 at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland.   A Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Aidan / St. Patrick Parish, 1460 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland.  Burial with military honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
