James P. Keenan, 81, of Cumberland, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2025 at Hope Health in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Lois (Sendley) Keenan and had been married for the past 58 years.
Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Michael Joseph and Mary Alice (Hanrahan) Keenan Sr. He was a life-long resident of Cumberland.
Mr. Keenan worked in the Human Resources Department at L.G. Balfour Company for many years. He later worked for Mahr Federal Products in Providence until his retirement in 2009.
Jim, as he was affectionately known, enjoyed golfing, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. In retirement he worked as a Starter / Ranger for Crystal Lake Golf Course.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, Kristin Murphy and her husband Robert of North Smithfield and Stacey Gaudette and her husband Glen of Lincoln; his beloved grandchildren, Matthew and Kylie Murphy and MacKenzie Gaudette; his sister, Mary Ellen Zuba of Pawtucket; his brother-in-law, William Curry of Cumberland; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Michael Keenan Jr., Ann Curry, John "Jack" Keenan; and brother-in-law of the late Bernice Keenan, Theresa Keenan and Walter Zuba.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Jim's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 from 4 to 7 PM and continue on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in the St. Aidan/St.Patrick Parish, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Hope Health, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
