Herculano L. Salustio, 82, of Cumberland passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Maria Lourdes Salustio and they had been married for the past 59 years.
Born in Moimenta do Dao, Beira Alta, Portugal, he was the son of the late Antonio de Loureiro and Zilda (De Jesus) Salustio. He moved to this country in May 1959, settling in Cumberland.
Mr. Salustio was employed by Northeast Cable for many years until his retirement. He was fondly known as "The Copper Man" by his co-workers.
He was the co-founder of O Grupo os Amigos do Benfica, which later became Casa do Benfica #65 Cumberland. In addition he was a member, past president, vice president and secretary of Clube Juventude Lusitana, where he was a Portuguese teacher and involved in the soccer program. Herculano was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. He was a dedicated and passionate Benfica fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He leaves his son, Herculano Salustio and his wife Susan of Lincoln; his sister Adelina Fernanda Silverio and her husband Casimiro of Attleboro; his two grandchildren Kayla Salustio of Cumberland and Corey Salustio and his partner Jodi Lamontagne of Cumberland; his great-grandson, Leo Salustio; his two godchildren, Melissa Rowse and Amy Silverio and their families; as well as many cousins and extended family.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Herculano's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 4 TO 7 PM and continue on Monday, October 23, 2023 at 10 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
