Obituary

Gerard (Gerry) Farland, a longtime resident of North Attleboro, MA, and Cumberland, RI, was called home on May 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was 82 years old.

Gerry was the beloved husband of the late Donna Lee Farland, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Jerilyn DesGranges and her husband Dan of Griswold, CT and Jay Farland and his wife Jocelyn of Attleboro, MA. He was also the loving stepfather of Jacqueline Williamson and her husband Gary, Darlene Reed and her husband Jim, and Carolyne Towner, all of Plymouth, MA. He cherished his 11 grandchildren: Elyse, Kailyn, Lyndsey, Emily, Elizabeth, Brittany, Chayce, Emma, Ethan, Joshua, and Zachary. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Topher, Olivia, Lily, Paisley, Elayna, Cecilia, and Desmond. He was the brother of Janet Hennessy and the late Mike Farland.

Born in Woonsocket, RI, on November 28, 1943, he was the son of the late Edgar Farland and Leonie (Guay) Farland. Gerry had a long and respected career as a Meat Manager for Almacs and, later, Park N Shop in Blackstone, MA, for many years before retirement.

Gerry lit up a room; he was a friend to everyone and one of the funniest men you could have the pleasure of meeting. To know him was to love him. He possessed the perfect mix of wit, wisdom, honesty, and love that could help those around him through their hardest days. An enthusiast of many things, he enjoyed New England sports—especially the Bruins and Patriots—fast cars, animals, a great seafood meal, and classic rock n' roll. He had a deep appreciation for history and travel, and particularly loved spending time at Second Beach in Newport and Beavertail in Jamestown.

Gerry fought valiantly through many health setbacks in his final years to share more time with his family, and they will always be grateful for that precious time.

Gerry's memorial service will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Exeter Animals, P.O. Box 302, Exeter, RI 02822. Please note on the memo line: In memory of Gerry Farland.
