CUMBERLAND
QUEENAN, Gerald J., 78, of Cumberland passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022 in the Mt. St. Rita Health Center from complications due to COVID-19. He was the husband of Kathleen A. (Doheny) Queenan and they had been married for the past 55 years.
Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Rose (Bechard) Queenan. He resided in Cumberland for the past nine years, previously residing in Pawtucket.
He was a 1962 graduate of Tolman High School. Following high school, he earned his Bachelor Degree and Masters Degree from Rhode Island College.
Mr. Queenan was a Math Teacher for the Pawtucket School Department for 27 years. He was the Math Department chairman from 1984 until his retirement in 1997. He also worked for the Pawtucket Recreation Department from 1975 to 2001 as a tennis instructor as well as tennis league and tournament director.
Gerry was a communicant of the St. Teresa Church, Pawtucket where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Pawtucket Teachers Alliance, the US Professional Tennis Registry as a certified professional tennis instructor, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, a past member of the Alliance Credit Union, Board of Directors.
He had a passion for the game of tennis, and enjoyed bicycling, billiards, hiking and snowshoeing. He also enjoyed Astronomy, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his beloved family.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his two children, Kelly Queenan and her husband Edward Duby of Cumberland and Rand G. Queenan of Cumberland; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Thomas J. Queenan III.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 10 AM in the St. Teresa Church, Newport Avenue, Pawtucket. Burial will be private.
Visiting Hours are respectfully omitted.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the charity of your choice.
