Obituary

Gerald T. Mooney, 85, of Cumberland passed away surrounded by his family on November 17, 2023, at Grandview Center. He was the husband of the late Joan Mooney (Tanner), and they had been married for 50 years.

Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late John and Lillian (Thielig) Mooney. He was a lifelong resident of Cumberland.

Following his graduation from Cumberland High School in 1956, where he was voted "Most Handsome", Jerry entered the United States Navy as a fireman apprentice and was honorably discharged.

Jerry was hired as the first employee of Ann and Hope at 15 years old. He retired after 47 years as the store's senior domestics buyer.

Jerry was an avid golfer and a long-time member of Foxborough Country Club. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, fishing, biking, and above all else spending time with his family. You could always find him with a smile on his face and a cold glass of Pinot Grigio in hand. He was known for his kindness, compassion, and selflessness.

He is survived by his son Steven Mooney, and his wife Joyce, his daughter Karen Nield and her husband Joseph, his daughter Linda Malloy and her husband Dennis, all of Cumberland, and son David Mooney and his wife Jana of Foster. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Steven Mooney, Joey Nield, Mackenzie Malloy, Mary Malloy, Dennis Malloy, Mason Mooney, and Taylor Mooney. He leaves his brothers, John (Jack) Mooney and Paul Mooney; as well as many nieces, nephews, and his special friend Sally DaCosta.

He was the father of the late Susan Mooney; and brother of the late Anthony Mooney, Raymond Mooney, Leo Mooney, Joseph Mooney, Lawrence Mooney, David Mooney, Ed Mooney, Sr. Ruth Mooney RSM, Rita Happenny, and Margaret Sidla.
