Fredrick W. Mumford, 93, Resident of Cumberland, R.I. tragically passed away December 16, 2023 in Hopkington, R.I. when his truck caught fire.
Fredrick," Fred" was predeceased by his devoted wife of 68 years, Jeannie and their beloved son, Dale for whom their love and grief for him was immeasurable.
Fred graduated from Kimball Union Academy, NH and Served his country as a U.S. Marine at the time of the Korean War. Fred and Jeanne lived in Pittsfield, MA in younger years when Fred worked as a long-distance truck hauler. They returned to Cumberland spending the rest of their lives there, being closer to family and friends. Fred worked for many years as a truck/construction driver for "Forte". He enjoyed racing and building go-carts and midgits with his brother, Foster, and son. Many hours were spent tinkering and working together on many mechanical projects where they developed a special bond. He and .Jeanne spent time caring for their property and also rescued many cats that became beloved pets. They enjoyed watching Nascar races, NE Pats games, and going out for daily breakfasts at the local diner(s); socializing with friends and patrons. Special times were spent together and over the many years with family celebrating Holiday traditions with the VanAughen, Prew/Johnson families, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas Eves.
As we remember Fred, picture him in Jeans and a Flannel shirt, a good cigar, riding about on his "route" in his favorite truck nicknamed "Grumpy Ol' Man". He will be remembered for his persevering and tenacious spirit, spunk, and laugh; living a long and good life.
Fred was pre-deceased by his parents, Frederick and Marian (Briggs) Mumford & brother Foster Mumford all of Cumberland, R.I. Dolly and Jules VanAughen, Johnson and Prew Families.
He is Survived by his Daughter In- Law, Yufen Mumford, Granddaughters Christine McNeill and Kylie Buesser.
Fred will always be lovingly remembered by Cousins - Paula, Dave and Chad Merriss, Cyndee,Paul,Scott and Prew family members. Importantly, and also considered as Family are very dear, close and caring friends: Mark (Lisa) Sawaia, Sheila (Don) Martin, Trish (Bob) Harmon, Mary Rei.
Honoring Freds' wishes, Funeral arrangements and Burial were held privately. The family wishes to thank JJ Duffy and all who assisted at the time of Freds' passing. A Man of few words, Fred said during a December 2023 visit: "Tell Everyone I Love Them"
