Francis T. "Frank" Dougherty Sr., 85, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022, in the Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Catherine (Breslin) Dougherty. They have been married for the past 65 years.
Originally from Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of the late John and Isabelle (Tierney) Dougherty. Frank resided in Cumberland for the past five years, previously residing in Chepachet.
He was an avid New York Yankees fan, golfer and all-around sports fan. He was an accomplished high school athlete at Tolman High School, Pawtucket.
Frank worked in the coronary care unit at RI Hospital for 15 years until his retirement. Previously he worked in the construction industry on projects such as the Newport Bridge and Route 95 through Rhode Island.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children; Frank Dougherty and his wife Lori of Greenville, Pete Dougherty and his wife Joan of Tennessee, Cate Dougherty of Cumberland, Mary Dougherty and her husband Edward Caouette of Chepachet, Sandy Dougherty of Carlisle, PA., and Paul Dougherty and his wife Linda Sullivan of Boston, MA. He was the father of the late Bethany Dougherty. He also leaves twenty grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William, John "Dip", Michael "Joe" Dougherty, Margaret White, Joyce Jensen, Mary McVeigh, and Isabelle Redman.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Frank's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, from 4 PM to 6 PM and continuing on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in the Historic St. Joseph Church, 1303 Mendon Road Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street New York, NY 10016.
