CUMBERLAND

LOPES, Fernando Vaz, 84, of Cumberland passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at the Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Ester de Albuquerque (Gomes) Lopes and they had been married for the past 58 years.

Born in Penalva do Castelo, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jeronimo and Irene deJesus (Vaz) Lopes. He moved to this country in 1972, settling in Cumberland.

Mr. Lopes was a mechanic for the former Scott Motors in East Providence for 16 years. He later worked for Standard Nut and Bolt until his retirement.

Fernando was a communicant of the Our Lady of Fatima Church. He had a passion for working on cars and in his yard. Those who love him will always remember his strong work ethic, and his willingness to help anyone.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his two daughters, Maria Elisa Faltus and her husband Theodore of Cumberland and Fernanda Lopes of Cumberland; his four grandchildren, Marisa Faltus, Thomas Faltus, Benjamin da Costa, and Daniel da Costa; his brother, Antonio Lopes of Portugal; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Fernando's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Sunday, July 31, 2022 from 5 to 8 PM and continue on Monday, August 1, 2022 at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt.122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
