Esperanca "Hope" Martins, 97, passed peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2025, in Chapel Hill Senior Living, Cumberland. She was the wife of Antonio Martins. They have been married for the past 70 years.

Born in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Antero and Emilia (Vila) Albuquerque. Hope was a lifelong resident of Cumberland.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland.

A devoted lover of music and family, she found joy in the soaring arias of the Metropolitan Opera and the quiet moments spent with those she cherished most. Her hands, always busy and capable, brought beauty and comfort into the world—whether through painting, cooking, or simply holding another's with warmth. Her presence was a gentle harmony of grace, creativity, and deep affection.

Hope was employed by the Town of Cumberland for 28 years as the secretary to the mayor. She took enormous pride in her ability to help the residents of her community.

She is survived by her daughter Leslie Macksoud and her husband Bruce of Warwick. Her granddaughter Elyse Holder and her husband Ryan of New Hampshire and great-granddaughter Emma. Her sister Alice Albuquerque of Cumberland and her god child Emily Cooney and her husband Frank of Warwick. She was also the god mother to Carol Machinski of Lincoln, and a large extended family, including many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was the sister of the late Mary Lopes and Abel Lopes with whom she made her home for over 60 years.

Hope's Life Celebration will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive Cumberland. Burial will be private.
