Obituary

Cumberland,

Emma Claire (Lachapelle) Filliatreault, 99, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023, in the Holiday Retirement Home, Manville, Rhode Island. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Marcel Filliatreault and mother of seven children, thirteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

Born in Cumberland on March 27, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Michel J. and Laura M. (Ritchotte) Lachapelle. Emma was a lifelong resident of Cumberland, RI.

She was a licensed hairdresser for many years until she decided to stay home to raise her children.  When her oldest children were able to care for the younger ones, she returned to work.  She worked at Peterson Puritan, Cumberland and, then, International Packaging, Pawtucket until she retired in 1987.

Emma loved music, singing, and dancing, especially waltzing with her husband, and the polka with her sister, Florence, at weddings. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and made a personal quilt for each of her children and grandchildren.  She always wanted to help people and would restore dolls and make new outfits for them to donate to children in need. She was a communicant of Historic St. Joseph Church and, later, St. Aidan Church.  While at St. Aidan's, she participated in the St. Aidan Cancer PAD program and also volunteered for many years with the religious education program.

She is survived by her children; Claire Warner (William) of Johnston, Mary Ferreira (Cezar) of Greenville, Janet Devine of Bremmerton, WA, Diane Gebhart (Paul) of Cranston, Carol Filliatreault of Livingston, TX, and Paul Filliatreault (Cynthia) of West Greenwich. She was the mother of the late Anne Carter. She was also the sister of the late Laura Poisson, Lillian Bliven, Arthur Lachapelle, Estelle Pandolfi, Florence Lamothe Ianetta, and Leo Lachapelle.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Holiday Retirement Home for the loving care of their mother over the past eleven years.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Emma's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on 09/28/2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and continuing on 09/29/2023 at 9 AM in the J. J.
