Edward D. Szpila Jr., 71, of Cumberland, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of the late Edward D. and Josephine S. (Maczuga) Szpila. He was a life-long resident of Cumberland.
He was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Central Falls, and Mt. St. Charles Academy in Woonsocket. He later graduated from New England Tech Institute with a degree in Architectural building designs. He also received his degree in HVAC design and installation.
At an early age, he learned the fundamentals of land surveying, mapping, ground water, and percolation testing by his father.
Mr. Szpila was the owner of Szpila Construction, a custom home / commercial building and renovation company.
He was a life-long member of American Legion - Post 14, Angle Tree Stone Rod and Gun Club, and the National Rifle Association of American. He had a passion for complete restoration of antique cars and trucks, entering his own vehicles in country fairs and car shows.
He leaves his daughter, Lisa Szpila of Cumberland; his son, Jason Szpila of Cumberland; his devoted fiance; Debbie Herbert of Attleboro; his sister, Carol Beauvais and her husband Roger of Cumberland; his beloved grandchildren, Aidan, Boston Lee, and Josephine.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Edward's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 from 5 to 8 PM and continue on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 10 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM will be held at St. Aidan Church, 1460 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the ALS United RI, 2374 Post Road, Suite 103, Warwick, RI 02886
