Edward "Eddie" Santos Ribeiro, 87, died Saturday, September 14th, peacefully with his family by his side at his home in Harrisville, Rhode Island.

He was the son of the late Angelo and Maria Ribeiro, originally from Portugal.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bernadette "Bernie" (Goudreau). He is also survived by his three children, Donna Dumouchel and her husband, Paul, of Smithfield, Edward Ribeiro of Marstons Mills, MA, Debra Otis and her husband, Walter, of Cumberland. He is survived by two sisters, Dolores Monacelli of Narragansett and Angela Ribeiro of Cranston. Eddie was predeceased by his brother, George Ribeiro.

Eddie was the proud grandfather of two grandsons, Michael Otis and Jeffrey Dumouchel. He was a fixture in their lives and always looked forward to their visits.

Eddie grew up in Pawtucket, graduating from Pawtucket Vocational High School in 1955.

Eddie had an incredible work ethic, starting with
his paper route as a child.  While in high school, he worked part time at Star Market. After he graduated, he continued his career at Star for 37 years as produce manager until his retirement at the age of 65. He then continued to work there part time for another 10 years. Eddie proudly wore the watch given to him at his retirement.

Eddie and Bernie married in 1963 and resided in Pawtucket until 1965 when they bought their first home in Cumberland. Eddie's passion was landscaping. Beautifying his yard was a labor of love for him. He would often be found working in the yard, caring for his many shrubs, hostas and azaleas. His yard was not only his pride and joy, but the envy of the neighbors as well.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was a night at Rocky Point for the clam cakes and chowder or the yearly trips to Hampton Beach, New Hampshire and to Falmouth on the Cape.
Eddie and Bernie, often attended concerts, went country dancing and escaped to their condo at Loon mountain. He also enjoyed being part of his local bowling team.

Eddie always loved cars. He was very proud when he was able to buy his first brand new car, a 1957 Chevy Bel Air. He had a vast collection of model classic cars. He accumulated hundreds of them. He also had an impressive collection of sports memorabilia. Both collections were displayed in his "man cave". This is where you would always find him when the game was on. He could be heard cheering on his team or yelling at the TV screen.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Eddie's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 4 to 7 PM and continue on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in the St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland.  Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 31085 or to the Rhode Island Special Olympics, 370 George Washington Hwy, Smithfield, RI 02917.
