Edward W. "Snuffy" Bessette, 73, of Pawtucket, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at the Miriam Hospital, Providence. He passed peacefully surrounded by family. He was the husband of Michele M. (McCrave) Bessette, and they had been married for the past 25 years.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Rene and Evelyn (Prince) Bessette. He resided in Pawtucket for the past 28 years, previously residing in Cumberland.
Mr. Bessette served in the United States Navy for four years on the USS Springfield and was a member of the Massachusetts Laborers Union for over 30 years.
Ed "Snuffy" enjoyed skiing, golfing and doing yardwork. He was a dedicated and passionate New England Patriots fan. Those who know him will remember his passion for weather and cooking, as well as the love he shared for his family.
In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves, two sons, Daniel C. Bessette and his wife Sophia of Rehoboth and Thomas E. Bessette of Pawtucket; his grandchildren, Hayden and Connor Bessette, both of Rehoboth; his siblings, Diane Lavallee, Carol Forte, Rene (Joe B.) Bessette Jr. and his wife Elaine, Linda Zalesky and her husband Paul, Peggie Bessette, Billy Bessette, Maryann Reis and her husband Ron, and Liz Bessette and her husband Matt, as well as several nieces, nephews and close friends. He was the brother of the late Barbara Hemond.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Ed's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 4 to 8 PM and continue on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 10 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Aidan Church, 1460 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland, RI 02864. Military honors will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Tufts University, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine.
